Karen Schwalm
Music was always part of growing up. My Dad, Fred Schwalm, studied music at Soumi College. He played many instruments and was a guitarist in bands. When I could reach the 1 st fret on his Gibson guitar neck and
played with it upside down he offered to teach me. But, I had to turn the guitar around and learn the classical music he bought for me. I played guitar, oboe and clarinet in school and university bands. After an adjudicated guitar solo at a competition I was invited to play at two honor concerts. It has been a pleasure to play guitar with other musicians and sing with choirs in Port McNeill. I love reading music and sharing it with others. If you learn music it lasts a lifetime. My classical guitar is a Spanish made Manuel Rodriguez. |

The Shifters
The Shifters came about in 2016 when Jim Mooney (Lead Guitar, Vocals), Judy Mitchel (Rythm Guitar, Vocals), and Josh Terry (Bass Guitar, Vocals) were thrown together to cover for a band that didn't show up in Sointula. They played again together one more time before they got serious and got Steve Walther (Drums) involved. Jim, Judy, and Josh are all from the North Island and Steve is Judy's brother and comes from Vancouver. The combination brings with it strong vocal harmonies and classic rock and roll influences.
